have you seen the recent PBS thing on the deficit? basically, they said it was Bush’s fault for spending (on the war & esp Medicare Rx law) and not raising taxes.

tempted to say something smart-aleck about you not reading any of these books, but i cant do that without making myself look worse… some of us get way too much pop culture for our own goods so we balance out the rest of the world who hasnt indulged… yea, something like that

Nope, and not likely to happen. Since moving back to Boston my driving habits have changed a lot. My daily commute is either a 15 minute subway ride or a 30 minute walk depending on the weather. Most of my errands and nights out happen within the range of taxis or public transit.

The hassles of car ownership in the city have started to wear thin – the mad dash to avoid tow trucks on street cleaning day, paying through the nose for parking, remembering where I left the car when I last used it three weeks prior.

At the beginning of the summer I started an experiment to put the Jetta away for a few months. I’ve been using zipcar or rentals for trips outside the city. It’s worked very well – so well that I’m thinking about selling the Jetta and going carless by the end of August.

At which point I’ll probably start lusting even more
